New and innovative aspects

The technique of viewing by the camera chips and subsequent screen representation that represent the same concept is called augmented reality. This process is carried out with the collaboration of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Burgos (APACE).

Main advantages of its use

We found with the difficulty that have a person with cerebral palsy and much more if it is a child to operate a computer. Also concerned about people who have big problems to engines, using learning tools such as puzzles, although very simple, causes them a lot of frustration because the disease are often unable to properly interact with them. Relying on the use of the webcam and augmented reality got a very visual and attractive to them because they see the place where they are on screen, combined with graphics or text which change position while they move sheets provided to them. We intend to approach the management of these computer users, you find it useful and stimulating though not handle typical applications and programs of a computer.

Specifications

The application is written in object-oriented language Action Script (similar to Java) developed by ADOBE and is freeware. The libraries needed to work the project are:

- Papervision 3D which is used to make graphical support for the application and it is free software. Programmed in Action Script.

- FLARToolKit which is used for the treatment of the augmented reality cards, webcam and 3D images. This case has a GNU license which is not to pay a license if the application you do not used for commercial purposes, otherwise, would have to pay in order to develop and profitable idea. Programmed in Action Script.

The 3D models are designed in the free program Blender.

The greatest strength of the project is that with a minimal amount of resources can create a viable application, since we only need a PC with Flash Player (free download Internet is to see such videos on youtube ) installed a web Cam and application. In the event that the availability of more financial resources could be improved as a better camera tools, use more programmers to improve the application or designers to detail and expand the catalog of objects and 3D animations, etc.

Applications

Although this tool is intended for learning and stimulation for people with cerebral palsy, is for use and support of psychologists and therapists and in no event shall use the patient / student solo. In other words, is an educational tool for use by special education teachers. It can be said that the development of applications in the field of augmented reality is quite advanced and covers many fields such as video games, marketing companies, mobile phone. However, in the sector in which we're moving we do not we are aware that there is no similar tool and addressed to such people with such problems.
