Researchers from the University of Burgos have developed an APP which measures substances of interest (biocompounds, polluting substances, etc.) with a simple photograph.
New and innovative aspects
Nowadays the reference technique to evaluate the concentration of species of interest using colorimetric sensors is ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy. Nowadays the reference technique to evaluate the colour changes of colorimetric sensors is ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. This type of technique requires specialized personnel to handle this type of equipment, in addition to a long and tedious experimental procedure that requires a prior calibration that allows calculating the concentration of the species of interest in a test sample.
This app would let measure the analyte concentration quickly, easily and efficiently with a simple digital photograph. To carry out the measurements, it is necessary to photograph the sample calibration and the samples problem.
Main advantages of its use
Specifications
This application allows the determination of the analytes concentration or chemical species of interest, performing a colour analysis of both the calibration curve and analyte problem. To do this, a photograph is taken of both the calibration curve and the analyte problem. Next, the circular selector is placed on each sample for the colour analysis, and finally the application will show the graphical representation of the concentration against different colour parameters (R, G, B, H, S, V, RGB, ΔRGB). The best fit curve (linear or quadratic), that is, the fit curve with the highest R2 parameter, will appear in the first position, and the application displays the calculated concentrations of the analyte problem. The most innovative aspect is the speed, simplicity, and efficiency when performing a concentration analysis.
Applications
The possible applications are the analysis of substances of interest in analytical chemistry, quality laboratories, industrial waters, quality control, etc.
Intellectual property status
Protected by intellectual property registration BU-122-20
Current development status
The application is temporarily available for free download on the Google Play Store and Apple Store under the name Colorimetric Titration.
Desired business relationship
Commercial Agreement, License Agreement, Technical Cooperation: further development, Technical Cooperation: testing new applications; Technical Cooperation: adaptation to specific needs.
The aim of the The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of the Univesidad de Burgos is to promote Innovation technology through the reseach results transfer and the conexions between the University and the new needs and requirements of the society - we are the link between the University and the Industry.
