Claw hand rehabilitation device and procedure for use

Summary of the technology

It is a device to improve the rehabilitation process of people suffering from "claw hand".

At present, the devices intended for the rehabilitation of "claw hand" are not capable of autonomously rehabilitating, after programming, the fingers of the damaged hand, nor is there currently any motorized device to perform such a function. In addition, rehabilitation processes with current systems do not come close to what an adequate passive rehabilitation should be, which consists, fundamentally, of performing successive repetitions, maintaining the stretch for a short period of time. For this reason, rehabilitation treatment is currently performed by the therapist with his or her own hands during pre-set time sessions, which is why the currently existing devices can only be considered as a complement to the treatment performed by the physiotherapist.

Details of the Technology Offer

New and innovative aspects

The device described is autonomous and is in charge of carrying out the efforts by means of motors, controlled by a computer. The device allows better control of the effort exerted on the tendons of each joint in each patient's hand, as well as the loads and magnitudes achieved in each rehabilitation session. Furthermore, this invention allows the physiotherapist to do therapy with several patients at the same time, since the device is autonomous and works obeying the individual cycle marked.

Main advantages of its use

• Standalone device
• Allows the physiotherapist to do therapy with several patients at the same time
• The physical therapist schedules the exercises that the device will perform during each rehabilitation treatment session.

Specifications

The device for the rehabilitation of patients with "claw hand" pathology consists of a rigid splint made of thermosetting polymer where the patient must insert the forearm and the hand to be rehabilitated.
The device has five programmable stepper motors.
The device repeatedly performs the number of cycles at the tension stipulated by the therapist, in each of the fingers of the hand to be rehabilitated.
