The company is developing cannabis-based edible products for the consumer lifestyle market and is looking for expert advisers and enabling technologies to assist their R&D and product innovation activities. Edible cannabis products are difficult to formulate because of the low water solubility and poor bioavailability of cannabinoids. Our client is interested in working with individuals and organisations with formulation expertise in delivery systems to improve the bioavailability of cannabinoids in gummy and beverage products.
The company wants to collaborate or partner with recognised experts and/or technology developers including companies, consultants, scientists, academics and research organisations. Expertise in the following areas is of particular interest:
Experts
The company is keen to work with experts in nanocarriers including nanoemulsions, liposomes, solidlipid nanoparticles and microemulsions. They are looking for formulation expertise in the use of these delivery systems for oral delivery of cannabinoids or other lipid-soluble actives e.g., natural compounds, drug APIs, fat soluble vitamins. They would like to work with technical advisers who can help them develop cannabis edibles and food supplements e.g., gummies and beverages with improved bioavailability.
Technologies of interest
Of primary interest are nanoemulsions, but other technologies of interest include (but are not limited to) self-emulsifying drug delivery systems, microemulsions, solid-lipid nanoparticles, encapsulation, liposomes, stabilizers, permeation enhancers, complexing agents.
Preferred requirements
• Delivery systems with a proven fast-onset effect
• Technologies that can provide a dose of up to 50 mg of cannabinoids per unit product
• Nanocarrier formulations with reduced or masked bitter taste
• Formulation technologies that are stable to 75-110oC and acid at pH 3-4
• Formulations and ingredients that comply with regulations for cannabis edibles or food supplements in Canada and USA
