The new oxide catalysts for the removal of nitrogen oxides originating from stationary emission sources. The experiments carried out with the assistance of these catalysts showed a high conversion efficiency of nitric oxide to nitrogen at relatively low temperatures – up to 100%. Designed reactor allows the direct removal of nitric oxide from the exhaust gases via the efficient decomposition of nitric oxide and, at the same time, systematic removal of carbon particles and other solid particles.Jagiellonian University posted this:
The subject of the offer is new nonlinear optical materials for use in optoelectronics, optical devices and components. The offer relates to co-crystals, from which one of polymorphic form is an efficient, phase matchable second harmonic generator. The averaged, relative experimental of second harmonic generation is over 14 times higher than of the commonly used nonlinear material (potassium dihydrogen phosphate). The presented optical material is colorless, suitable for growing large single crystals. The obtained crystals have extreme values of birefringence with reference to other transparent materials. The maximum birefringence for one of the polymorphic form is 0,46. For comparison, calcite, which is commonly used for the production of polarizing prisms, has a birefringence c.a 0.17. The offered materials, thanks to their properties, may be used for the construction of optical devices and components. Moreover, due to the polar structure may exhibit properties such as pyroelectricity, piezoelectricity or ferroelectricityCracow University of Technology posted this:
The synthesis of silver nanoparticles suspension and nanosilver suspension in reductive system with urea for agrochemical and sanitary applications. The main advantage of proposed technology is the presence of urea in the system used commonly as a fertilizer promoting the growth of plants and both antifungal and antibacterial activity against pathogens. It also fits into the current trend towards the use of proecological technologies in industry. Therapeutic compositions of cortistatin for the treatment of chronic fibrosisCSIC has developed a therapeutic tool that enables obtaining compositions of cortistatin highly effective, and without side effects, in the treatment of chronic fibrosis such as liver, lung and dermal, among others. The high effectiveness of the composition is based on the fusion of the pharmaceutically active agent to both a latency-associated peptide (LAP) and a proteolytic cleavage site that enable, respectively, maintain cortistatin in a latent form and activate it, by means of its controlled release, specifically in fibrotic tissue. THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT AGAINST NEURODEGENERATIVE PRION DISEASESTo date, despite numerous active efforts, there are no drugs available for the cure of the neurodegenerative diseases collectively referred as prion and prion-like disorders. Symptomatic treatment is the only available option, including the administration to patients of antipsychotics, such as quetiapine and clonazepam, to treat myoclonus, and of selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) to treat depression. Indeed, through this invention, we are presenting a new class of small molecules acting as SERPINA3 inhibitors, which are able to reduce PrPSc accumulation in prion-infected cell lines, thereby representing a new therapeutic treatment against prion and prion-like diseases. The development of specific inhibitors of SERPINA3 with an activity in the nanomolar range is expected. The characterization of structural models of the binding of the small molecules with the protein should allow the identification of novel inhibitors with improved potency.CSIC - Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas posted this:

Thermochromic mortar coating for a more sustainable construction CSIC has developed a thermochromic mortar coating with optical properties in the solar radiation range that vary according to temperature in a reversible way. The mortar is especially interesting for energy efficiency in buildings. Thin Film Flexible and Stretchable Pressure Sensing MatThe company's pressure mat can sense applied pressure and its corresponding position on a flat or curved surface. Its pressure sensing layer is constructed with multiple rows and columns of piezoresistive sensor points. The piezoresistive sensor’s electrical resistance decreases when a pressure is applied to it. There is a certain relationship between a sensor point’s resistance and the applied pressure on it. By measuring each sensor point’s electrical resistance, the applied pressures at all the sensor points can be derived. The pressure mat can also be made stretchable to suit some applications.

Three-Dimensional Acoustic LensMoreover, we present a lens prototype in audible frequencies to demonstrate the validity of the modelling method. The applicability ranges from medical (non-incisive surgery, ecography, physiotherapy) and ultrasonics in general, to environmental acoustics. The invention consists on the description of a new method to obtain acoustic lenses in different frequency ranges (audible and ultrasounds). The acoustic lenses are formed by an array of concentric rings in such a way that they have the ability to collimate an acoustic beam. The correct arrangement of the rings is calculated in a two-dimensional space by means an inverse design algorithm (Genetic algorithms). The conventional acoustic lenses are based on the curvature of its surface for focusing sound thanks to the phenomenon of diffraction. By contrast, the lenses presented here are based on reflection of sound by elements (rings) scatterers distributed properly. This allows more margin for improvement in design and operation. For example, here we describe the operation of a multi-focus lens capable of changing the focal length depending on the sound frequency. Furthermore, we present an example of operation of such a lens type at the audible frequency of 2200 Hz that validates the proposal.Unismart - University of Padua Foundation posted this:

Tool for analysing and forecasting demand and prices for urban use water servicesWater planning tradicionally used to apply hydrological models to determine the demand for water services based on forecasts of future supply needs and population growth. The supply needs parameter used to be estimated in terms of growth compared to the current situation at the time, which encouraged policies of increasing water supplies and catchment infrastructures. However, the demand for water services depends on a series of globally interrelated variables: Population growth or increasing numbers of water service users, higher earnings or economic activity, water service price levels and the degree of technical efficiency in water use or changes in user behaviour.
