Innovative procedure for the preparation of silica fillings without shrinkageThe research group Carbon Materials and Environment of the University of Alicante has developed a procedure to prepare silica fillings preventing their shrinkage by the deposition of a thin film prior to the synthesis of the filling. Modifying the said thin film, the filling properties are modified, obtaining highly satisfactory results in the case of the mesoporous thin films in all case studies. This method also allows obtaining silica fillings with different diameters and their incorporation into different types of supports such as glass, steel or honeycombing cordierite monoliths. Following this procedure the shrinkage of the fillings is avoided, which is a common occurrence with the established preparation protocols.UNIVERSIDAD DE BURGOS posted this:

Innovative process for the production of wine without the addition of sulfur dioxide by using chitosan-based filmsDespite the numerous applications of chitosan, was never described the production of chitosan films with natural compounds with these properties. As well as their use as substitutes for the addition of sulfur dioxide in wines or other food products. The chitosan films have many applications due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The limitation in their use is that chitosan is soluble in acidic aqueous media. Despite the numerous applications of chitosan, was never described the production of chitosan with natural compounds that are stable in acidic and with high antioxidant activity, maintaining the antimicrobial activity of chitosan. Has never been reported the use of chitosan as a substitute of the addition of sulfur dioxide in wines or other food products, pharmaceutical or other related areas.University of Vigo posted this:
Innovative process for the removal of persistent organic pollutants present in wastewater streamsThis is the first time that surfactants-based aqueous phase segregation has been proposed for the remediation of aromatic organic pollutants. Up to know, biological degradation was used alone or in combination with other physical and chemical methods (e.g. volatilization, sorption, electrokinetic, oxidation, extraction with supercritical fluids, etc.), that often entail economic and environmental disadvantages. Therefore, the proposed strategy is an environmentally friendly alternative that entails benefits such as low energy consumption, low cost, availability of reagents at bulk quantities and easy implementation. The proposed technology makes up a quite simple way of remediating wastewater effluents containing aromatic hydrocarbons by means of coupling two different strategies, a biologically-based step and another one consisting on phase segregation. In this way, the detergents existing in the aqueous stream (both in biological remediation methods and soil washing techniques) are leveraged to trigger phase segregation by the addition of potassium-based organic biodegradable salts.University of Vigo posted this:

Innovative process of integrated culture of marine speciesResearchers at the University of Alicante have developed a procedure that combines the culture of several marine species in the same place in offshore areas, as part of an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system. The main culture may be any of the species commonly used in marine aquaculture as fed fish or shellfish, and the second one involves the culture of amphipods that feeds on organic waste generated by the main culture and has an important commercial potential as food resource. The main advantage of this technology is the cost-effectiveness of implementing this procedure in sea cages because with the same investment and infrastructure is raising an additional species reusing existing waste and diversifying production. Thus, it can be used in the industrial sectors of aquaculture. The research group is looking for companies acquiring this invention for: commercial agreement or technical assistance or manufacturing agreement or technical cooperation or a combination of some of these services.Universidad de Alicante posted this:

Inorganic Fullerene Coating For Medical DevicesImplantable or insertable medical devices must be made of materials with unique properties in addition to biocompatibility to address potential damage from the physiological environment and to maintain their effectiveness over time. For instance, urethral medical devices (e.g., catheters) are damaged by the encrustation of minerals from the urine, which results in their frequent replacement. Various medical applications suffer from excessive friction, severely compromising their function leading to prolonged treatments. Prof. Tenne and his team developed a novel method for coating medical devices using inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles to increase their lubricity and prevent encrustation. This coating is applicable for various devices such as stents, catheters, dialysis tubes, cannulas, and sutures.Yeda posted this:
Inorganic Nanotubes/Polymer Composites for 3D PrintingBiocompatible polymers commonly used in the orthopedic and cosmetic prosthetics, cardiovascular and dental implants and food packaging industries often suffer from poor mechanical properties and thermal stability, limited dimensionality and short shelf-life as compared to their metal comparators. Two research groups from the Weizmann Institute of science and Tel-Aviv University, have demonstrated the Integration of inorganic tungsten sulfide nanotubes (WS2-NTs) into standard polymer solutions, without impacting viscosity. When deployed in standard fused deposition modeling processes, the reinforced polymers present uniform dispersion of the WS2-NTs, usually hard to achieve using other nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes or graphene, and preserved crystallinity. Fabricated products are biodegradable and biocompatible, and demonstrate substantially enhanced mechanical strength and fracture toughness as compared to neat polymer solutions. The WS2-NTsreinforced polymer can serve as ink for 3D printing of a range of products, including custom-designed orthopedic, cardiovascular, dental and plastic surgery implants and prostheses, and may be advantageous in the food packaging industry.Nanoker Research SL posted this:
