UK-based Binnies – part of the RSK Group of companies delivering integrated environmental, engineering, and technical services to a variety of sectors globally – will partner with iVapps at the Yorkshire Water Innovation Marketplace tomorrow (Thursday),
The organisations have united to showcase the strides made in producing green applications to sustainably digitise the pipeline network.
That includes the world’s first recyclable smart cartridge, a ground-breaking digital solution from iVapps that will serve ‘smart cities’ and meet demand for an answer to the water leakage crisis.
Together Binnies and iVapps are among 32 participants attending this week’s event and will bid for contracts to provide ideas and responses to the challenges facing Yorkshire Water; notably supply interruptions and avoiding the need to break ground and cause widespread disruption for residents and businesses.
Nigel Roberts, International Business Manager at iVapps – which has sites in St Asaph, London, Jersey, Singapore, and the Philippines – said this is a fantastic opportunity to display cutting-edge equipment that will improve the network for generations to come.
“We are delighted and privileged to partner Binnies at the event as their technological partner, and to explore future solutions to the crisis facing the water sector,” said Nigel.

October 2021
An ambitious company with its sights set on cleaning up the marine sector has developed an innovative graphene-based technology platform using solar photovoltaic cells to create electrical power, with potential for mass manufacture, thanks to support from engineers at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) North West.
Grafmarine is looking to bring to market an integrated solar energy and storage solution for marine vessels that aims to reduce diesel fuel consumption on ships by up to 10 per cent. As the marine industry moves towards zero emissions and demand for clean energy grows, solar power and new battery technologies herald an exciting development in environmentally responsible energy generation.

Grafmarine is piloting its NanoDeck AI Solar tile management solution in partnership with Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd, which operates a fleet of multi-purpose vessels from offices in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
It can be fitted to both new and existing vessels, helping the industry on its journey to decarbonise and meet future legislation, whilst further assisting in the global development of smart low-carbon ports.
Commercial Director Nigel Marc Roberts added: “Our collaborative partnership with Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd will provide us with data that will further develop the system as we continue to forge new relationships in the US, Europe, and Asia.
“The system offers unique and innovative ‘plug and play’ technology which enables it to be installed quickly at low cost and upgraded in line with technological advances without the need for a large investment, making this a future-proof solution.

UK shipowner Carisbrooke Shipping is trialing solar energy cells on the deck of one of its multi-purpose vessels.
The company has partnered with compatriot Grafmarine to trial its NanoDeck AI Solar tile management solution
“NanoDeck challenges the current reliance on fossil fuels by providing a clean and sustainable alternative renewable source of energy which can be attached to any flat surface – in this case, a cargo vessel – to capture, store and remotely manage clean energy generation via AI solar technology,” said Grafmarine founder Martin Leigh.
The tiles can be fitted to both new and existing vessels with Grafmarine aiming to commercialize the system next year.
