Professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina
Claudia Sayer is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Food Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina since 2004. She received her undergraduate, master and doctorate degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Her PhD thesis was dedicated to modeling, monitoring, and controlling the distribution of molar masses during semi-continuous emulsion copolymerization and she developed part of the work of the University of the Basque Country. She conducted Postdoctoral Research at the University of São Paulo, where he worked with emulsion polymerizations in a continuous pulsed sieve plate reactor and used NIR and Raman spectroscopy techniques to monitor emulsion polymerizations. In 2012/2013, she spent a year as a Visiting Professor at the Max Planck Institut für Polymerforschung, where she was involved in the preparation and characterization of polymeric particles for biomedical applications. Her research interests involve chemical reaction engineering, specifically polymer reaction engineering, involving topics as modeling and optimization; reactor types, operation modes, and configuration; polymerization in dispersed media; monomers derived from renewable sources; enzymatic reactions and colloidal systems. She supervised 70 master´s and doctoral theses and published more than 170 papers.
