This role focuses on integrating sophisticated integrated circuits (ICs) into the microrobot shell, developing PCB designs, and ensuring the seamless functionality of our microrobots. You will be instrumental in building systems that enable our microrobots to form any arbitrary 3D shape, unlocking new applications and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PCBs for mm-scale microrobots, ensuring integration with IC components and microrobot shells.
  • Lead the testing and debugging of ICs, providing solutions and enhancements for system optimization.
  • Collaborate with the IC design and microrobot shell teams to co-develop a coherent system architecture.
  • Develop technical documentation and test protocols for electronic systems within the microrobots.
  • Analyze system performance through rigorous testing, adjusting designs as needed to meet technical and user requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in programmable matter technology and incorporate best practices into system designs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in electronic system design, including PCB design and IC integration.
  • Strong background in hardware debugging, circuit analysis, and testing methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD tools for PCB design and electronic circuit simulation software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical details coherently.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in robotics, embedded systems, or microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).
  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols and power management for low-power systems.
  • Familiarity with programmable matter concepts or similar technologies.
  • You have a good level of written and spoken English (B2).

You will be hired by the CNRS in France on a fixed-term contract (18 months)starting June 2024, working at the start-up's office in France, and will be in direct contact with the University of Michigan and the FEMTO-ST laboratory. This position can then be converted into a permanent contract, hired by the start-up directly, offering equity ownership for eligible employees.
